Unique Places was hired by Franklin County’s Planning Department to develop an action plan for the Cypress Creek watershed. The hope is that solutions successfully implemented there will serve as a model for watersheds throughout the region.
UP contributed innovative GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping services to the project, helping to ensure that PCC and Guilford County had the best information available to guide important land use and farmland preservation decisions.
Unique Places and strategic partner, Frontline Conservation Real Estate, worked with the Episcopal Diocese to design ecologically sensitive home sites along Lake Logan, a pristine private-access lake spanning 80 acres in the Pigeon River Valley near Asheville, North Carolina.
After detailed analysis and research, Unique Places helped create the Watauga County Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Plan. Funded by the NC Department of Agriculture, the plan offers a step by step road map for Watauga and similar mountain communities to shift from a waning farm economy to one that embraces the increased demand for local foods.
