GIS for Watershed Planning Improving land, water and community health Posted on April 9, 2014 by UPLLC

Unique Places is working with the San Juan Chama Watershed Partnership to help delineate treated forested areas and areas of high fire risk in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. The San Juan Chama watershed is an area that is only 288 square miles, but provides municipal and agricultural water to the central Rio Grande Valley and approximately 50% of Sante Fe County and 90% of Bernalillo County – half the population of New Mexico.

Our GIS and Mapping Department transformed hard copy, hand drawn forestry field maps into spatial data that can be used by all the watershed partners to help make their planning efforts more focused and efficient.

Monique DiGiorgio, Chama Peak Land Alliance, commented, “Unique Places has provided excellent GIS, mapping and data analysis services to our San Juan – Chama Watershed Partnership by working with our forester to digitize and display forestry treatment areas in the Chama Land Peak Alliance region. Michael’s ability to immediately grasp the task at hand, especially in a complex subject, is remarkable. The attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through and timeliness is unparalleled.”

Unique Places will continue to work with the Partnership towards their goals of improving land, water and community health to the San Juan Watershed.
