NC-Fire-Council_storyEight Unique Places team members attended the 2014 NC Prescribed Fire Council Meeting in Black Mountain last week. The Annual Meeting was a joint event with the Consortium of Appalachian Fire Managers and Scientists and focused on Continuing Forestry Education credits, academic posters, a field trip, exhibits, a raffle and silent auction.

The three day event, “Working Together to Restore Appalachian Mountain Landscapes,” included workshops on air quality and smoke modeling, shortleaf pine initiatives, policy changes and updates, oak studies and research partnerships. The Unique Places team attended the event, including the field day out to Linville Falls.  The field day included discussions about the Timber Rattlesnake and a visit to the Table Mountain Pine Restoration area. As a fire dependent species, research is still be done to determine the best fire regimen for the area.
