Jeff Fisher is Chief Executive Officer of Unique Places, where he provides leadership in business development and real estate investment. With 18 years of experience in real estate and land and resource conservation, Jeff has been involved in facilitating $500 million in land transactions and generated over $250 million in land conservation funding and tax benefits. Before co-founding Unique Places, Jeff served as Director of The Nature Conservancy’s Delta Project in Arkansas and as Executive Director of the Tar River Land Conservancy. Jeff holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.E.M. from Duke University’s Nicholas School for the Environment. He also received a Political Science B.A from North Carolina State University. He lives with his wife and two children in Durham, North Carolina.
Michael has over 12 years experience in business development, management, real estate, land conservation and GIS technologies. Michael owned and operated BioGeoCreations, a successful GIS and Cartography service company for over 10 years and is currently a licensed real estate broker in New Mexico at Terra Alta Real Estate Services. Michael is also a Certified GIS Professional (GISP) and continues to meet high standards for ethical conduct and professional practice as established by the GIS Certification Institute. He served for nearly 10 years in the land trust industry and worked to conserve directly and in partnership over 160,000 acres of land in New Mexico, Arizona, Alabama and North Carolina. Michael currently serves as the Treasurer on the Board of the Quivira Coalition.
He received a Graduate Certificate in GIS from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Western Washington University, Huxley College of the Environment in Bellingham, Washington. Michael hails from rural Arizona and Eastern Washington State. He and his wife currently live in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Catherine assists the Unique Places team by providing administrative support to each area within the company. With a background in both the startup and corporate worlds, Catherine has over 20 years experience in a variety of areas including human resources, bookkeeping, hospitality, real estate sales and coordination. Catherine is also a licensed real estate broker in the state of North Carolina. She is actively pursuing her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration through Western Carolina University. Catherine and her family are Virginia natives, though they have family roots in North Carolina.
Eric is an entrepreneur at heart and loves coming up with creative and unique solutions to arrive at a win-win solution for all parties in real estate transactions. Eric has been actively involved in the NC real estate market for nearly 5 years. He has also owned a local cabinet business for nearly 10 years that he recently sold so that he could devote his full attention to real estate efforts. Eric graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Business Administration. He is an active water sport enthusiast who loves surfing, stand up paddling, scuba diving, and more! He currently lives in Apex, NC with this wife Amelia and four children.
Chris is a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), NC Licensed Soil Scientist (LSS), and SC Professional Soil Classifier (PSC) with over twelve years of experience in natural resource management. He has managed projects for Federal, State, and private clients throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. His array of project experience includes stream and wetland delineation, stream and wetland mitigation, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), soil evaluations, seasonal high water table analysis, preparation of Section 401/404 CWA permit applications, on-site wastewater treatment, groundwater sampling and remediation, and conducting threatened and endangered species surveys. Chris has reviewed over 460 Section 401/404 CWA permits throughout the southeast. He has additional expertise in GPS data collection and the use of GIS. Originally from Illinois, Chris moved to North Carolina to attend North Carolina State University, from which he holds a B.S in Natural Resources: Ecosystem Assessment.
Kate comes to Unique Places with an impressive background in GIS and program management. Since graduating in 2011 from the University of New Mexico (UNM) with a Master’s degree in GIScience, Kate has worked as a researcher at UNM, applying GIS techniques to a wide diversity of projects. Kate is also a Certified GIS Professional (GISP) and continues to meet high standards for ethical conduct and professional practice as established by the GIS Certification Institute. She has expertise in creating geospatial tools and models for automated prioritization and has applied these tools to multiple land and resource planning efforts across the country. Kate has also co-authored several peer-reviewed papers on various GIS topics and has taught basic and advanced GIS courses at UNM. Although Kate likes to explore any data she can get her hands on, her favorite GIS solutions to design are raster-based suitability analyses and vector-based network analyses.
